KRISTINA GEHRKI PODCAST EXTRA
AM How did you come to be involved with MISSD?
KG I first became involved with MISSD as soon as I found out that the organization, this nonprofit existed. I first learned the word akathisia about four weeks after Natalie’s funeral from a medical expert. And then I ended up finding MISSD when I was on the Internet doing some research. I was very grateful to find MISSD and to work with them in whatever capacity, as a volunteer, that I could because one of the things about these tragic akathisia-induced, avoidable deaths is that you start talking to people and they have a look on their face like you’re not telling the truth. And so I think that the thing that is really helpful for MISSD is that it shows people that you’re not alone and that what you’re saying is factually correct.
MISSD is not antidrug and it’s not anti-psychiatry; it’s not anti-anything. It’s pro accurate information. Pro accurate information. You can’t have medical freedom of choice, really, if you don’t have accurate information. There’s no such thing as medical freedom of choice without accurate info.
