Special Saturday night event: Awkh and Keebs. Sound by Jon Monteverde.

Awkh: My name's Maryiah; my stage name is Awkh. I'm 18 and I'm a student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I was born and raised in Chicago and, as a result, was very shaped by and attracted to the urban culture that the city has produced. I started as a poet, transitioned to spoken word, and now I've taken it a step further by adding a musical element. The show will be a short journey through the path that brought me to music, starting with poetry, moving to spoken word, and leading to my music. It'll be a very high-energy but chill and intimate experience. Here's a link to my music.

Keebs, a singer-songwriter and producer from Chicago, defies the boundaries of hip-hop and R&B with bassy synths and electronic sounds. Though she started writing songs at a young age, a spiritual awakening at 22 drove her to share her sounds with the world. Keebs' relationships and life changes inspired her first EP, "KEEBS" (released January 2014). She describes her second EP, "Baby Doll" (released March 2014), as pure feelings from her brain to yours. The grooves in her songs are hard to stand still to, but while you're moving, be prepared for hypnotic visual art to add to the experience.
