Friday night live at Transistor: Rosetta and Open Forum Project. Sound by Jon Monteverde.

Rosetta is a Chicago-based quintet that creates unique, progressive music firmly rooted in jazz tradition and style. Their music is as melodically satisfying as it is harmonically and rhythmically complex. The group was formed in Texas by Lindon McCarty (guitar) and Luke Angle (drums), and they have since been joined by Mike Lebrun (sax) and Christian Dillingham (bass) of Chicago, as well as Chris Lawrence (trumpet) of Grand Rapids. Their performance at Transistor featured new, original compositions from several members as they will just be coming out of the studio from recording their first full-length album.

The Open Forum Project is a Chicago-based ensemble led by Chris Weller that has a rotating cast of members and performs free-improvised music. Like an art project, it acts as a vessel for collaboration and experimentation. The first O.F.P. performance is December 19th, 2014 at Transistor with percussionist Tim Daisy (Ken Vandermark, Dave Rempis), trumpeter Russ Johnson (Tony Malaby, Joe Lovano), bass clarinetist Jason Stein (Vandermark, Jeff Parker, Peter Brtozman), and bassist Charlie Kirchen (Rooms Trio).

For their Transistor set, The Open Forum Project performed a set of free-improvised music inspired by some of Weller's original melodies.
