Friday night live at Transistor: improvised solo percussion & turntables from On The Ground, analog drone from Jesse Giallombardo, and improvisatory classical noise from Sies/Willis Duo. Sound by Jon Monteverde.
On The Ground is an improvised solo situation developed by Chicago-based sound artist, percussionist, and composer Tim Daisy.
Utilizing an ever-expanding arsenal of both traditional and nontraditional instruments – including radios, turntables, gongs, chains, bells, a snare drum, brushes, scrap metal, circular saw blades, sticks and alarm clocks – OTG explores the art of sound collage in a solo improvisational context, multi-layered free improvisation, with all of the instruments and objects spread out and assembled on the floor.
Tim Daisy is a Chicago-based sound artist, percussionist and composer working in the fields of improvised and composed music since 1997. He has performed, recorded and toured both solo and with many acclaimed musicians and ensembles from both the USA and abroad. He works in a number of different environments, including modern dance, film, chamber ensembles, free jazz and improvised music ensembles.

A musician with diverse interests and projects, Jesse Giallombardo is most commonly found playing rock music with The Paver and Beat Drun Juel, crafting minimalist pop tunes with Old Youth and hosting/producing the We’re So Lost podcast. Solo musical works are centered around dissonant drone clusters, disorientation via layering, manipulation of prerecorded material and the celebration of impractical amplification devices.
His performance at Transistor featured a droning electric organ, cassette material, and practical and analog effects – all amplified and distressed via an array of early solid state cassette machines.

Chris and Ben began their collaborations in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Over several years and through various projects, they played music varying from Charles Wuorinen to doom metal. Sharing an eclectic aesthetic, they decided to combine their omnivorous musical approaches in a duo format. Together, they explore experiential landscapes, living within and without the world of “contemporary virtuosity.”
Using double and electric basses, drum set, percussion, contact mics and a variety of electronics, the Sies/Willis duo crafted an intricate and improvisatory musical landscape, traversing all of the elements of the earth.
