Friday night live at Transistor: folk & jazz from Ana Munteanu and Afro-folk-pop from Liberian singer-songwriter Abraham Mellish.  Sound by Jon Monteverde.

Ana Munteanu, born in Republic of Moldova, is a singer who combines the lyricism of French music, the sensuality of Latin music, the freedom of jazz. As she says of herself: “My work is inspired by singers and poets I love. It reflects me and my life. I’m fascinated by the human voice, and feel very fortunate to be singing myself. I like exploring musical terrain, finding pieces of music that create moods and carry a message that resonates with other people.”

For this Transistor set, Ana Munteanu was accompanied by Alex Brescanu on bass guitar. They played songs composed by Manuel de Falla, Caetano Veloso, Duke Ellington, Jose Maria Contursi, and traditional Romanian songs.
