Friday night live at Transistor: modern jazz and new music quintet Talking Ear and electronic synth-pop trio The Field Recorders. Sound by Jon Monteverde.

Talking Ear is a contemporary jazz and new music ensemble based out of southern Michigan and Toledo, Ohio, committed to providing a unique experience for listeners through composition, collaboration and improvisation. The group consists of vocalist Estar Cohen, guitarist Daniel Palmer, pianist Benjamin Maloney, bassist Ben Rolston, and drummer Travis Aukerman. Each musician has a distinct voice as an accomplished composer and performer, contributing to an exciting and versatile sound.

For their Transistor set, Talking Ear performed a set of entirely original music heavily based in the art of modern jazz and improvisation.

Relying equally upon drum machines, synthesizers, their trusty Moog Theremin, and more 'traditional' instruments, The Field Recorders are an electronic synth-pop trio based out Chicago. Life-long friends Shehzad Choudhry and Sunny Desai have been making music together for over a decade, composing, producing and occasionally DJing. When Desai met singer-songwriter Daniel Robbins while in medical school, the three became fast friends. Occasionally collaborating together over a two-year span, the trio began to take shape in late 2012. The Field Recorders keep everything in-house, electing to record, mix and master their music themselves. Choudhry puts it best when he says: 'Essentially, field recording is capturing the sounds of the environment around you.'

For this Transistor set, The Field Recorders performed music from their EP “Creep Back” and LP “Love Triangle.” They also performed new experimental material written since their last release.
