Friday night live at Transistor: Videobug, Spaces of Disappearance and Savage Sister. Sound by Jon Monteverde.
Chicago-based duo Videobug has been 2012. Synth-lady Linda Malonis and drummer Patrick Driscoll bind dreamy escapism with dense rhythmic textures. Their self-titled cassette combines their love of sample-based electronic music, synthesizers, Afrobeat, samba, trip hop, outer space and really super adorable kitties.

Spaces of Disappearance is the electronic dance band project of singer/songwriter Elaine Davis and bassist Zach Smith. The vocals and live bass are intertwined with dance beats and experimental sounds/loops/synth lines. Elaine uses Ableton Live for programming and a MicroKorg XL synthesizer. The duo has been playing around Chicago and a few other places for the past year and dropped a debut EP, “Unhealthy Snacks,” in November 2013. They will be celebrating the release of two new singles at Transistor, to be played for your listening pleasure.

Savage Sister is a Chicago-based dream pop band that melds the hazy textures of shoegaze with big electronic beats. The band is made up of Michael Tenzer on synths, Chloe Lundgren on vocals and synths, and Caitlin Klask on bass. The band was formed in May of 2012 in St. Louis, then migrated to Chicago later that year. In June of 2013, Savage Sister released their self-titled debut, which drew a good amount of praise from the blogosphere. The band recently released "sundrowned", a collaborative EP with local solo artist Lykanthea, better known as Lakshmi Ramgopal, and plans to release their own new EP, "Wild Sleep," on February 18th. The band is often compared to Beach House, Grouper, Cocteau Twins, Slowdive, M83 and Tamaryn.
