Friday night live at Transistor: folk solo acts Chaz Hearne and Rebecca Jasso and acoustic trio Matthew Morgan with Sarah Blick & Jon Rogers. Sound by Jon Monteverde.

Chaz Hearne has been playing and writing music for most of his life. From intricate finger-picked acoustic numbers to all-out rock anthems, everything is topped off with thoughtful melodies and a barely restrained enthusiasm. His debut solo album, "The Legend of Core Dynamo," was released on March 17th and tells the story of an activist superhero who longs for simpler times.

For his set at Transistor Chaz sang and played acoustic guitar and banjo. He was joined on cello by Alex Gilewicz.

Rebecca Jasso started playing guitar at the age of 10. Since then, her aim has been to write the best songs she can. She studied classical guitar throughout high school, until she quit formal lessons and began to focus on her original tunes. For many years she performed solo as a singer/songwriter, but before long found herself leading a rock band and, more lately, an original soul band. Now you will hear her mostly solo, performing songs of love and heartbreak. A visual artist, Rebecca paints pictures with words and plays rhythmic, colorful progressions. Says Rebecca: "My set has been described as sweet and dreamy, and my songs in the vein of Nick Drake. My aim is to enchant."

Matthew Morgan is an original Chicago folkster with the voice of an angel. He was personally taught by Woody Guthrie's ghost during the dark days of spandex and hair gel. He writes songs that weave stories that sound like the past without actually being from the past and he's been collecting tears that he's kept in a jar since Sufjan was just a pup. He's had the good fortune to share his music with people across the country (or at least as far as Texas) and he tries to only use words the meanings of which he's actually memorized. His beard is 100% real. For this Transistor set he was joined by Sarah Blick & Jon Rogers.
