Friday night live at Transistor: XYZR_KX, Brash Flair and Ian Wilson. Sound by Jon Monteverde.
As XYZR_KX, Monteverde combines beat-oriented electro-acoustic experimentation with melodicism, songwriting and melancholic hushed vocals. Over the course of three albums, his music has been described as "essential lo-fi bliss" (Illinois Entertainer), "enigmatic yet pleasing" (Giant Robot), and "pure joy" (Beach Sloth).
On this night Jon performed selections from his latest album, "Secession in Astropolis," along with new and unreleased material.
Also available: a XYZR_KX Transistor performance from December 16, 2011.
Brash Flair combine disparate musical fragments and nestle organic, clean songs amongst the resulting debris. Chicago multi-instrumentalist Joshua Wentz and versatile soprano Kristin Johnston explore elements of triphop and downtempo, finding moments where storytelling and soundscapes coalesce. In this, their public performance debut, Brash Flair played new music from their forthcoming, as-yet-untitled EP.
