Shelley Miller isn’t afraid to take chances. A writer’s writer, less interested in genre than honesty, she pens darkly soulful tunes about life just outside the lines. Folk? Perhaps … late-night jukebox folk. Gospel for non-believers folk. Had-one-too-many-and-lived-to-tell folk. Rock hymns for the unhemmed folk. A versatile guitarist and intensely emotional performer, Miller has shared her music at venues, festivals, and tiny, broken places around the country. She’s recorded five albums and broken five bones. She fronts the band Soft Ledges, plays drums with Gold Harvest, teaches guitar at the Old Town School of Folk Music, and spends untold hours talking to her cats.

For her show at Transistor, Shelley played a solo set of (mostly) new, unrecorded songs on the piano and guitar.

Br. Moose is Louis Bardales, a fingerstyle guitarist, songwriter and poet from Chicago.

Rebecca Jasso started playing guitar at the age of 10. Since then, her aim has been to write the best songs she can. A Chicago native, she studied classical guitar throughout high school, until she quit formal lessons and began to focus on her original tunes. With a passion for the acoustic guitar, Rebecca draws out its beauty with her finger-style playing, and her songs are vivid stories, replete with mythical creatures.

For her Transistor performance, Rebecca performed a fairy tale in song.
